Arrest For Stealing a Car
On 11/2 at approx. 2:38am, Officers were sent the PDQ
on Milwaukee St. The owner of a car that had been stolen a few
days earlier had spotted his vehicle in the area. While checking the area, Officer Dao Xiong saw the vehicle on Milwaukee St. traveling about 50
mph. When he attempted to stop the
vehicle, the driver accelerated and tried to get
away. When the driver tried to turn onto Leon St., he lost control and struck
a fence of a house on the corner. Four
males ran from the car. Officer Xiong chased the driver on foot. When Officer Xiong
tackled the driver, he noted the driver dropped a gun (later determined to be a
BB gun). The suspect struggled and broke
free. The officer tackled the driver a
second time. During this struggle, the
officer was struck in the face and had his face pushed into the ground. The driver broke free again and was tackled a
3rd time by the officer. As the driver
continued to fight with the officer, a second officer (Sgt. Bitterman)
arrived and the driver was eventually handcuffed. The driver was identified as
Sir Ryan Laird, 23 yrs old, 802 Vernon Av. He was charged with Operating a Stolen Auto,
Eluding police, Battery to
a Police Officer, Resisting
Arrest, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and several traffic offenses. Two passengers were located in the area and

confronted the woman, who continued to walk away. The shopper followed, demanding her wallet back. The woman returned the wallet. The shopper contacted a store employee who
held the woman for police. The woman
denied stealing the wallet. She was
charged with theft.
Juveniles Arrested with Stolen Mopeds

16 year old juvenile eventually admitted to stealing one of the mopeds and identified
the other 2 juveniles with him. Both of
the mopeds had just been stolen (one from downtown and one from Union St) and had not yet been
reported to the police. Great work
Officer McHugh.
That's all
for now. Be careful.
Be safe.
